Cognizant is looking for a Python Gen AI Engineer with strong software engineering skills and practical experience building production-grade applications. The selected candidate will work on generative AI and agentic AI technologies and contribute to the development of scalable enterprise solutions.

The role requires strong proficiency in Python along with practical experience using agentic frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph. Candidates should have a solid understanding of large language model fundamentals, including prompting, tool and function calling, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, context management, and memory systems.

The position also involves designing modular and platform-agnostic architectures, developing APIs and microservices, and building reusable frameworks or SDKs. Candidates should understand software development lifecycle practices and how AI agents can improve or automate these processes.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Develop production-grade software using Python.
• Build generative AI and agentic AI applications for enterprise use cases.
• Work with agentic frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar technologies.
• Implement LLM capabilities including prompting, tool/function calling, RAG, embeddings, context management, and memory systems.
• Design modular and platform-agnostic architectures that are not dependent on a single LLM vendor or cloud provider.
• Develop APIs and microservices for scalable AI applications.
• Build extensible and reusable frameworks or SDKs.
• Follow software development lifecycle practices including CI/CD, version control, code review, and testing.
• Explore how AI agents can augment or automate software development processes.

• Work with tools such as LangSmith, tracing frameworks, and custom evaluation harnesses.
• Apply AI governance practices including guardrails, access control, auditability, and human oversight.

Qualifications & Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience building production-grade software rather than only notebooks or prototypes.
• Practical experience with agentic frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or similar technologies.
• Solid understanding of LLM fundamentals, including prompting, tool/function calling, RAG, embeddings, context management, and memory systems.
• Experience designing modular and platform-agnostic architectures.
• Understanding of SDLC processes, including CI/CD, version control, code review, and testing.
• Understanding of how AI agents can augment or automate SDLC processes.
• Experience with API design and microservices.
• Experience building extensible and reusable frameworks or SDKs.
• Familiarity with agent evaluation and observability tooling such as LangSmith, tracing frameworks, and custom evaluation harnesses.
