About the Role

As a Python Developer, you will become a founding member of the IPS Technology Team in Mumbai, building highly efficient, modular applications designed for deployment across multiple environments. While predominantly a Python-focused role, you will get significant exposure to BlackRock’s client businesses and a platform to learn portfolio analytics and construction techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand the business to devise short-term and long-term software solutions that improve efficiency.
- Plan and scope technology projects with a forward-looking approach to software architecture.
- Contribute meaningfully to strategy and planning, and independently drive execution of strategic projects.
- Build highly efficient, modular applications for deployment in multiple environments.
- Stay current with technology developments across BlackRock, finance, and the wider tech industry.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, from freshers to experienced professionals, can apply. Strong knowledge of Python and SQL is a must, with TypeScript/UI knowledge considered a plus. An interest in financial data platforms and a collaborative, detail-oriented working style are important for this role.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Python and SQL; TypeScript/UI knowledge is a plus.
- Beneficial exposure to Snowflake, Flask API, Streamlit, Angular/React, Azure, Redis, or Docker.
- Understanding of agile project management frameworks.
- Ability to work effectively on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-evolving environment.
- Outstanding communication skills and a strong team-player attitude.
- Interest in financial data platforms such as Aladdin, Bloomberg, Morningstar, or FactSet.
Recommended Certifications & Skills to Stand Out
For fintech-focused Python development roles like this one, candidates often strengthen their applications with the PCEP or PCAP Python certification, alongside strong, demonstrable SQL skills. A working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure Fundamentals AZ-900 is a common starting point) and containerization basics (Docker) is broadly valued in modern financial technology teams. Since this role touches portfolio analytics, foundational knowledge of finance concepts — through resources like the CFA Institute’s Investment Foundations program — can also help candidates stand out, alongside a GitHub portfolio showing data pipelines, APIs, or dashboard projects that demonstrate applied engineering ability.
Salary & Benefits
BlackRock offers a wide range of benefits including a strong retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive healthcare, support for working parents, and Flexible Time Off (FTO), along with a pay-for-performance philosophy that includes base salary and a discretionary annual bonus.
Career Growth Opportunities
BlackRock offers clearly defined technology career paths, progressing from Engineer I (Analyst) to Engineer II/III (Associate), Senior Engineer (Vice President), and beyond, across both Tech Leadership and Enterprise Leadership tracks.
