About the Role
As a Software Engineer, you will design and implement tools to accelerate software system development and debug environments, working with embedded operating systems (Linux, VxWorks, QNX) in a multi-thread/multi-process environment. You will analyze system scalability and interworking issues, perform root cause analysis, and design built-in diagnostics for distributed, intercommunicating systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement tools to accelerate software system development and debug environments.
- Participate in and support fixing issues arising from customer sites.
- Analyze system scalability, interworking issues, and perform root cause analysis.
- Design and implement built-in diagnostics and test codes for reliability and supportability.
- Develop distributed architecture systems with intercommunication over Serial, Ethernet, 1553, CAN, NMEA, ModBus, and other physical layers.
Required Skills
- Excellent command of C and C++ programming languages.
- Strong control over operating system principles (Linux, VxWorks, QNX).
- Experience in multi-thread/multi-process programming.
- Proficiency with Linux, Jira, and inter-process communication.
- Knowledge of IP protocols, VLANs, and Ethernet switching.
Recommended Certifications & Skills to Stand Out
For embedded and systems software roles in defense engineering generally, strong C/C++ fundamentals and hands-on RTOS experience (VxWorks, QNX, or FreeRTOS) are highly valued. Familiarity with communication protocols (CAN, Serial, Ethernet) and a personal project involving embedded systems or IoT devices can help candidates demonstrate practical readiness for this kind of role.
