CGI Mainframe Apprentice Job Description
CGI is looking for a Mainframe Apprentice who has completed foundational training in mainframe technologies. The selected candidate will work with experienced developers and support teams while gaining practical knowledge of mainframe application development and maintenance.
The role provides an opportunity to work with technologies such as COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, mainframe utilities, and z/OS concepts. Candidates will initially work under supervision and progressively take ownership of assigned tasks.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Support mainframe application development and maintenance activities under the guidance of senior team members.
- Create, modify, and execute basic JCL jobs.
- Analyse JCL job outputs and identify basic issues.
- Perform basic COBOL coding, testing, and debugging under supervision.
- Write and execute basic DB2 SQL queries.
- Support data-related activities within mainframe applications.
- Analyse basic compile errors and JCL errors with guidance.
- Monitor jobs and analyse basic abends.
- Follow established coding, testing, and documentation processes.
- Follow change-management procedures and organizational standards.
- Learn and adapt to CGI’s mainframe applications, tools, and business processes.
- Work closely with senior developers and support teams.
- Progressively take ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities.
