HCLTech Computer Vision Engineer Job Description

HCLTech is looking for a Computer Vision Engineer II to develop and optimize robust, production-ready computer vision pipelines. The selected candidate will work on real-world computer vision applications involving surveillance, industrial automation, and smart spaces.

This position is designed for strong fresh graduates or candidates with up to 1 year of experience who have knowledge of computer vision algorithms and the software engineering skills required to integrate and automate vision models.

The role involves working across the complete computer vision pipeline, including image and video ingestion, preprocessing, model inference, post-processing, metadata generation, training, evaluation, and deployment.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and optimize end-to-end computer vision pipelines.
  • Work on image and video ingestion, preprocessing, inference, post-processing, and metadata generation.
  • Implement and fine-tune computer vision algorithms for object detection, tracking, re-identification, segmentation, anomaly detection, and OCR.
  • Build and maintain automated training and evaluation pipelines using MLOps practices.
  • Streamline model updates, benchmarking, and deployment across edge and cloud environments.
  • Optimize vision models for latency and throughput.
  • Work with technologies such as TensorRT, OpenVINO, DeepStream, and ONNX Runtime.
  • Develop complex event-processing logic by correlating multiple detections and applying temporal and spatial rules.
  • Reduce noise and false positives to generate reliable business insights.
  • Develop tools and scripts for dataset management.
  • Work on automated annotation, quality checks, synthetic data generation, and active learning workflows.
  • Troubleshoot vision performance issues caused by lighting, occlusion, camera angles, and other real-world conditions.
  • Implement algorithmic and data-centric improvements.
  • Document vision pipeline architecture, model interfaces, performance benchmarks, and deployment procedures.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python.
  • Ability to write efficient and modular code for computer vision applications.
  • Solid understanding of Computer Vision fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of image processing concepts including filtering, morphology, geometry, feature extraction, and camera models/calibration.
  • Proficiency with OpenCV and NumPy.
  • Experience with at least one deep learning framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Hands-on experience through projects or internships developing and evaluating vision models.
  • Knowledge of CNN architectures such as ResNet, MobileNet, or EfficientNet.
  • Familiarity with object detection models such as YOLO, SSD, or Faster R-CNN.
  • Understanding of tracking and segmentation approaches.
  • Familiarity with video processing concepts including codecs, containers, RTSP, HLS, and frame-level data processing.
  • Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including Git, unit testing, debugging, and integration.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating computer vision performance.
  • Knowledge of metrics such as precision, recall, F1, mAP, IoU, MOTA, FPS, and CPU/GPU/RAM usage.

Work Environment

The position is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The selected candidate will work on computer vision technologies used in real-world applications involving surveillance, industrial automation, and smart spaces.
